Description

This presentation will begin with a short introduction to the Boeing Augmented Reality Kit (BARK) platform architecture. The presenter will discuss (1) its interfaces to production systems for retrieval of work instructions and configuration controlled 3D data, (2) the Services layer and automated building of 3D “jobs” for mobile devices, and (3) the front end applications running on the Microsoft HoloLens, Smartphones and Tablets.

We will then cover the first four use cases and applications to airplane manufacturing – BARK Wire Install, Locator, Viewer and Part Install. Following this, we will review work now completed to move the BARK back end into the cloud, and how we incorporated requirements around Information Security, Infrastructure and Safety into the design. Finally, the presenter will discuss some architecture considerations as the platform evolves and grows to incorporate new use cases in Boeing factories, and larger groups of more diverse users.

What exactly differs from the real and virtual world? Unless you do not touch any object around you, does it matter the object is real or virtual? Do we really need the reality of an object or can technology enable us creating virtual objects and embed into our real-world without any difference? To what extent can we mix the real and virtual world? Can this create an advantage in manufacturing; can you turn this combined world into a cost-benefit process?

Let's discuss it together…

Ever wondered how you can use your companies existing 3D data to create exciting training solutions for your employees that save time during training? Did you know that you can easily create AR applications that workshop technicians can use to easily explain to a customer what mechanical issue they are currently working on? In this presentation, Volvo Group Trucks will showcase how they are using in-house AR applications across Germany in Training Centers to improve internal training experiences. What’s more, together with RE’FLEKT they will show just how easy it is to create a value-adding AR application with no additional programing skills or data.

The XR industry is on the precipice of change. Custom, bespoke XR presentations created by agencies have a “wow” factor but are not repeatable nor scalable. This is especially true for complex engineering data. Large scale infrastructure projects need to have solutions that respond to constantly changing data and variables—and integrate seamlessly into a daily workflow. We will look at historical trends in technology to determine the near future outcomes for XR and see what the state of practice will evolve to for the use of XR in the engineering workflow. How will this work as a collaborative design and decision-making tool, and how can we use XR to communicate complex engineering data to non-technical stakeholders?

Centrica is an international energy and services provider with 26Million customer accounts globally and 12,000 field based engineers.

As Centrica transitions from a traditional utility provider to a technology driven energy and services company, it has already begun to harness the power of Cloud and AI services to aid in this transition.

For Centrica to continuously satisfy the changing needs of its customers, they are proactively looking at new innovative technologies; amongst these Centrica recognised that eXtended Reality or Immersive Technologies could further accelerate this transition specifically in the areas of operational excellence, customer service, learning and development, engineer safety and overall cost efficiencies. To test this, over the past two years Centrica has started trialling various eXtended Reality initiatives across different parts of the organisation, such as:

• Rolling out world’s first integrated loyalty marketing campaign using webAR

• Virtual Reality to immersively convey company’s strategy and roadmap

• Remote assist and collaboration between experts and customers turning customers into digital engineers using mobile webAR

• Mobile AR product placement to allow customers to try and customise Centrica’s smart HIVE products before buying.

• Microsoft Mixed Reality platform and HoloLens for immersive learning, step by step instructions, hand’s free remote assistance between experts and field engineers and virtual collaboration experiences amongst distributed functions and experts.

This talk will focus on evangelising XR technology at a large multi-facet business, the talk (through examples) will touch on some of the XR initiatives, share lessons learnt, tips on how to approach trials and best practice.
