Description

Since the Kodak Brownie made photography portable over a century ago, society has grappled with social acceptance. As AI devices evolve to incorporate multimodal AI and contextual processing, the industry must combine existing precedent with novel approaches to meet the needs of new technology and use cases. This session details the framework Meta has developed—informed by research, public input, and policymaker engagement—for thinking about how to signal to bystanders when capture, environmental processing, or AI features are active on wearable devices. While expectations in this space continue to evolve, the presentation shares key social and technological factors Meta has considered and calls for a common industry approach to social acceptance as these technologies grow.
