AWE USA 2021: DAY 2 OFFICIAL RECAP

For those who did not stay up too late -catching up with XR friends- after Day 1, the start of Day 2 certainly was easier. Of course, it was worth the effort as the day started on the Main Stage with a truly unique fireside chat between Snap co-founder and CTO, Brielle Garcia AR Designer & Developer at Taco Lamp and Lauren Goode Senior Writer at WIRED Magazine.

“What is the Metaverse?” was the first question posed, to which Bobby Murphy replied that it’s not actually a term that they’ve ever used to describe what the company does. “What we are trying to build is really towards this AR future. [...] We see augmented reality as this amazing technology that allows people to engage with digital experiences.[...] AR has become an incredibly useful and very powerful medium for conveying an idea, for conveying a concept, and we've seen tremendous impact to our own business with augmented reality where hundreds of millions of people are playing with AR today to express themselves, communicate with friends and we've seen a lot of early signal around the usefulness and the practicality of AR for many other use cases.“ Bobby said.

Snap co-founder and CEO also spoke about the spectacles, about VR and why he believes AR is more accessible. Watch the entire chat here:

The conversation kept the energy level high in the next session as well, as Unity’s Tony Parisi talked to SVP Growth at Media.Monks and VP, Experiential Technology at Publicis. This lively conversation was about the current and future state of XR for brands and agencies, and also what it means to merge the physical and the digital world, how we can create more engagement for our brands, and also how the pandemic affected some industries.

The moment that everyone was looking for finally came: the opening of the expo floor! Testing new equipment, seeing demos of the latest technologies and hearing about launches and announcements made Day 2 very memorable.

The schedule for the rest of the day was packed: exciting debate in the retail track, book signing, investment panels, the Startup Pitch competition, Augmenting the Future of Storytelling panel in the Media track and many more.

After the happy hour in the playground, everyone who still had energy left, rushed to the Mission City Ballroom to find out who won Auggie Awards.

But enough from us...see what people have been tweeting about the event here below.

Thanks for another amazing day! Looking forward to the third day of AWE 2021!
