MUNICH, Germany, August X, 2018 – AWE (Augmented World Expo), the world’s #1 augmented and virtual reality conference and expo series, today announced its return to Munich for the third consecutive year. New this year, AWE EU co-locates with ISMAR, the IEEE International Symposium on Augmented and Mixed Reality, to deliver the industry’s most comprehensive showcase of AR, VR and MR (XR) innovation--bridging the gap between scientific ideation to market commercialization.
AWE EU 2018 will run 18-19 October 2018 at the MOC Exhibition Center in Munich, Germany. Event details, including a list of speakers and exhibitors, plus registration information and agenda, are live at http://www.aweeu.com.
“Since my first ISMAR in 2008 where I was introduced to the promise of AR to change our lives, it was my dream to bring together the research and commercial sectors of the AR Industry. This year, by co-locating AWE and ISMAR in Munich we achieve this goal; the cross-pollination between research and industry will manifest itself in deeper understanding of the current research as well as what’s required to support XR adoption in the industry. ” said Ori Inbar, co-founder and executive producer of AWE. “At no other event can you see the products available today combined with the critical-ingredient science inspiring the technology of tomorrow--for an interconnected vision of the road ahead for XR.”
Known worldwide as a proving ground for transformative XR tech, AWE EU attracts leading XR executives, technologists, academics and media from around the globe to take a deep dive into the most innovative commercial AR and VR technologies and emerging applications. At AWE EU 2018, the show will host upwards of 100 exhibitors and speakers from major global and leading European brands, including Amazon, Bosch, DAQRI, Disney, Facebook, Fraunhofer, GE, Google, Holo-Light, Intel, Oculus, ODG, PTC, Qualcomm, RE’FLEKT, ScopeAR, Streem, Vuforia, Volkswagen, Wikitude, XMReality, and more.
By co-locating with ISMAR, AWE EU 2018 further expands its scope to include papers from top academic and scientific fields--research leading to the next generation of commercial AR and VR products. Past AR/VR research-to-commercialization successes include ARKit’s precursor, the first AR SLAM-tracking technology for the iPhone, as well as KinectFusion, a breakthrough 3D modeling and interaction technology spearheaded by Microsoft Research--each debuting (respectively) as research papers at ISMAR 2009 and ISMAR 2011.
“Many of today’s advanced AR and VR technologies stem from research presented at IEEE ISMAR events, which is what make this year’s AWE EU and ISMAR alliance so important for industry professionals,” said Prof. Mark Billinghurst, Chair of the ISMAR Steering Committee. “By co-locating for the first time, AWE EU and ISMAR are providing a unique view of the entire AR and VR spectrum-–combining the best in research with the leading businesses in the field. This is key because the students and scholars of AR/VR today are the startups you will see on the AWE floors of tomorrow. This is definitely the place to be if you are interested in AR and VR.”
The IEEE ISMAR symposium is the oldest and most prestigious international academic conference in the fields of Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality. Organized and supported by the IEEE Computer Society and IEEE VGTC, ISMAR 2018 will be held at the MOC Exhibition Center in Munich (Germany) 16-20 October 2018, and will co-locate with AWE EU 2018 18-19 October.
