Charlie Fink has been a foundational figure in the evolution of digital and immersive media for over three decades. His career in virtual reality began in the early 1990s when he co-founded Virtual World Entertainment alongside Tim Disney and Jordan Weisman. The venture pioneered location-based entertainment by launching the BattleTech Centers, which provided the public with some of the first multi-player, networked virtual reality experiences.
Fink's forty-year career at the intersection of storytelling and technology began at Walt Disney Feature Animation, where he famously conceived the idea for "The Lion King" and became the studio’s youngest-ever creative vice-president. He was instrumental in the creative development of several of the most successful animated films in history, including Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. Fink later held senior leadership roles as a Senior Vice President at AOL and President of American Greetings Interactive.
In the last decade, Fink has transitioned into a leading role as a journalist, consultant, and industry analyst. As a columnist for Forbes and the author of several books—including Charlie Fink’s Metaverse (2017) and Convergence: How The World Will Be Painted With Data (2019) —he has chronicled the technical and cultural development of the XR industry. He is also the producer and co-host of "This Week in XR," (now “The AI XR Podcast”) and an adjunct at Chapman University and ASU. His work serves as a primary resource for documenting the progression of augmented and virtual reality, providing technical analysis and strategic guidance for the broader immersive ecosystem.
