AR Portals – Bringing Magical Worlds Through Your Phone

Oct 21

14:00 - 14:25

Description

Augmented Reality Portals is a new way to fully surround users in a 360 and 3D digital world using their mobile phone. AR Portals combine the “immersiveness” of virtual reality and the ubiquity of the smartphone to create a tool for brands and creators alike to develop magical experiences for everyone.

Take your users on a journey of your factory, have them walk around a virtual store that throws the laws of gravity out the window, or have them go on an interactive adventure while fully immersed in a digital world. These are just a few ideas of what you can do with AR Portals.

AR Portals can be created for Social AR (Snap Lens Studio and Meta's Spark AR Studio) and for WebAR and we'll talk about the pros and cons of both options.

This talk will go over the most frequent use cases for AR Portals, a high-level technical overview, and best practices in creating your own. We will also showcase some of the best AR Portals out there. If you're interested in bringing magic to the world with AR, then I can't wait to share this talk with you.

HaptX, Inc. was founded in 2012 with a compelling, if audacious, vision: develop a system capable of providing accurate physical inputs (touch, force, temperature) across an entire user’s body to a degree that the virtual world becomes indistinguishable from the physical world. This system is both an engineering and business challenge, as it requires a commitment to a long-term development roadmap that delivers desirable products along the way. This presentation will cover some of the highlights and pitfalls of the journey to bring such a system to market through a laser focus on enterprise customers. Enterprise customers have been impactful early adopters, because their use cases are so clear; listening closely to their needs has created a durable partnership that benefits the entire industry. Developing haptic technologies that are enterprise-grade is a challenge that HaptX has been working on for a decade now. Yes, it is hard to start a hardware-based startup company. But the best is yet to come and is tantalizingly close.
