AWE USA 2026
Electric utilities have been slowly adopting XR technologies, and interest and investment are growing. The industry has a real need for immersive worker technologies, with an aging workforce, complex and hazardous equipment, and operational processes that are often outdated, and early results suggest XR can deliver real value across training, field operations, and maintenance.
This talk will draw on case studies from EPRI's Digital Worker Collaborative to illustrate how utilities are beginning to use AR and VR across their field and plant operations, and what those deployments have revealed about where the technology has the most value. It will also address what needs to happen for the industry to move from isolated pilots to broader adoption, and offer a perspective on where utility XR applications are headed next.
