In elite sport, a race can be decided by 40-90 milliseconds. In surgery, 100 milliseconds can determine precision. In aviation, photography, emergency response and everyday life, our actions are shaped by decisions made faster than conscious thought. Drawing on research spanning sports science, performance psychology and healthcare training, this talk explores how XR environments can influence metacognitive processes such as self-regulation, awareness and decision-making (with specific examples on batting sports, where lab data shows XR measurably alters movement mechanics). As spatial computing moves mainstream, the question is no longer whether XR will change how we see digital content, but how it will shape human behaviour itself.
