Dr. José Ferrer Costa is a medical doctor specialising in family and emergency medicine, with more than 20 years of clinical experience in primary care and emergency settings. He works in the Innovation and Research Department at Badalona Serveis Assistencials, Barcelona, where he leads and coordinates XR projects for healthcare, rehabilitation, chronic pain, cognitive stimulation, preoperative anxiety and clinical training.

He also develops XR content using Unity and Blender, focusing on clinical design, workflow integration and real-world implementation. His work examines how immersive technologies can move beyond pilot projects and become useful, safe and sustainable tools in routine care.

José is a PhD researcher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. His doctoral work focuses on XR adoption in healthcare through the MCDA-XR framework, a structured approach to assess clinical relevance, usability, organisational readiness, safety, ethics and scalability before implementation.
