Description

Over the past three years, Reality Hack at MIT Founders Lab has worked with XR creators trying to turn prototypes into startups. Some pitches stood out immediately; others struggled to make the leap from ideation and demo to investable opportunity. In this session, we’ll share the most important lessons we’ve seen from both successful and unsuccessful pitches, and what today’s VR creators can learn from them.

Drawing from our experience mentoring award-winning teams and supporting founder development, we’ll unpack the common patterns that help builders better communicate customer need, market relevance, product positioning, and startup potential. Each January, founders in the program pitch to mentors that include investors and VCs in the MIT ecosystem, giving teams direct exposure to the questions and signals early-stage backers care about most.

Learning Agenda:

  • What separates a compelling XR founder pitch from a strong demo that still misses the mark
  • The most common mistakes VR creators make when pitching to judges, mentors, investors, and partners
  • How to better frame customer need, market opportunity, and product positioning
  • What award-winning teams did differently to stand out
