Sydney Hamilton
United States
Sr. Project Management Specialist & Cost Account Manager
The Boeing Company

Sydney Hamilton is an author and award-winning aerospace leader who shatters stereotypes and ignites a passion for STEM in young girls, particularly those from underrepresented communities. In 2021, she made history as the first African American to receive the prestigious Space and Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) Promise Award—a recognition of her brilliance and groundbreaking contributions to aerospace engineering.

Her innovative work has earned national visibility, including features on CBS’ Mission Unstoppable and NPR’s Wow in the World, highlighting how her impact stretches well beyond technical expertise.

Currently, Sydney is a Sr. Project Manager/Cost Account Manager for an autonomous submarine production program at The Boeing Company. Previously, she was an aerospace structures engineering manager, leading a team of engineers on the X-66 Sustainable Flight Demonstrator (SFD)—a groundbreaking collaboration between Boeing and NASA to develop the world’s first experimental aircraft focused on sustainability.

Her leadership on this forward-thinking project builds on a robust career managing a diverse portfolio of efforts, from satellite technology to ensuring the structural integrity of commercial airplanes. Her innovative spirit shines through her work in additive manufacturing (3D printing) for primary satellite structures and the folding wing-tip technology on the Boeing 777X—the first wing-tip of its kind in commercial aviation.

Sydney’s influence goes far beyond the aerospace industry. As an IF/THEN Ambassador for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), she lives by the motto: “If she can see it, then she can be it.” Her mission is to empower and inspire young girls to pursue dreams in science and engineering, helping cultivate a more diverse and inclusive future in STEM fields.

She also served as the President of the Board of Directors for Dramatic Results, a nonprofit organization that fosters STEM learning in underserved youth through STEAM (STEM through Art) programs—blending creativity and science in ways that resonate deeply with students from all backgrounds.

Her academic foundation is equally impressive. Sydney holds dual degrees in Mathematics from Spelman College and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. She further broadened her global perspective and technical expertise by studying Nuclear Engineering abroad in Xiamen, Fujian, China.

When she’s not pushing the boundaries of innovation in aerospace, Sydney can be found exploring the underwater world through scuba diving, learning to DJ, or cooking—and especially eating—new cuisines with friends. Through her work, advocacy, and personal passions, Sydney Hamilton is redefining what it means to be a leader in science and engineering, opening doors for others to follow in her extraordinary footsteps.
